No joke - comedy club here

IF YOU are tired of sitting at home twiddling your thumbs on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night then you may just have had your social life saved.

Hervey Bay RSL has unveiled a new line up of entertainment, not only catering for the young but also the young at heart.

As part of its entertainment overhaul, the RSL will be hosting performers from across Qld and interstate thanks to a partnership with The Sit Down Comedy Club.

The first comedian to take to the stage will be Mick Meredith on Saturday.

He will be joined by comedy writer Steve Philp, who will be hosting the show, as well as up and coming artist Damien Power.

The comedy club’s Fedele Crisci says audiences can expect their bellies to roar with laughter.

“Mick looks at his life, particularly his involvement with football, his kids, ex-wife and dating. He also does musical comedy; parody songs.”

This weekend will be the first time Meredith and Philp have performed on the Fraser Coast but, with any luck, it will not be the last.

Comedy acts will feature at the RSL about five times a year, adding new life to local entertainment options.

“It just gives us a bit of variety,” says Crisci. “If we just use local guys we run out of acts and if you keep putting on the same people, audiences get bored.

“It’s good to laugh; it’s good medicine.”

Other shows coming up at the RSL include cover acts Robbee Williams Live, Chisel Revived, Cajun Country Revival and Dean Vegas.

For dates and ticket prices people can check out www.herveybayrsl.com.au.

Doors open to Saturday’s Mick Meredith comedy show at 7pm for an 8pm start. It is for people 18 years of age and over and tickets cost $20.
