No licence, no seatbelts for children, no prison

A RECKLESS mother who drove intoxicated and unlicensed with children not wearing seatbelts in the back of the car, has escaped a prison sentence in Hervey Bay.

Cassandra Rae Groth, 28, pleaded guilty to numerous charges, but received a probation order and a fine despite a lengthy traffic history.

Groth was intercepted by Howard police when crossing the Bruce Hwy.

Despite four previous drink-driving offences, her roadside breath test revealed she was over the limit once again.

The police also found she was driving without a valid licence and had one child unrestrained in the back seat.

The magistrate accepted that another child in the car had been restrained but had wriggled free.

In the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday, Groth was fined $300 and placed on probation for two years.
