No premiership, but Bullets are still champions
WE CAME here as underdogs but left as champions," Kerrianne Farrelly said after her Bullets Nubees lost the Hervey Bay Netball Division 1 grand final.
"We were rebuilding our Div 1 team this year, so to have these girls come through and perform at that level against a team that hasn't changed but added to their line-up, is brilliant.
"It was a real David and Goliath moment. I couldn't ask for more as a coach."
Farrelly was an unmoving, calculated presence on the sideline as she watched her team rally from a five-point deficit at three-quarter time, to fight back and almost steal victory against the undefeated minor premiers.
But while Nubees fell three points short in their chase, Farrelly was rapt with how her young team performed.
She praised captain Brook Hall in particular, one of only two players who were part of last year's premiership winning squad.
The officials were also impressed by Hall, voting her Player of the Grand Final.
"It was just so stressful," Hall said after full-time.
"We went in thinking 'we were the underdogs, let's come out on top'. We were determined to beat them.
"As a team, we're a unit.
"It wasn't individual, we wanted to work as a team and it showed, we only lost by three, so I'm really proud of everyone."
While reluctant to single out a player, Hall praised the efforts of young goal shooter Isabelle Baumanis.
"She is the youngest on our team," Hall said.
"She stayed strong throughout the whole game and her shots were almost 100%."
