Nurses union protests against privatisation outside Yaralla

QUEENSLAND Nurses Union held a rally outside Maryborough's state-run Yaralla Place nursing home on Wednesday morning to protest against privatisation.

QNU assistant secretary Des Elder and three delegates gathered outside the home to protest against Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service's decision to transfer Yaralla Residential Aged Care Service to a private or not-for-profit organisation via an expression of interest process.

Mr Elder said the union had unanimously voted overnight to condemn the region's LNP members of parliament for not standing against the privatisation.

He said the union was concerned health care would be incrementally privatised, stripping preventative health services away from public hospitals.
