NZ rocked by weekend quakes

SOME of the strongest tremors to rock New Zealand since the 2010 Christchurch earthquakes were felt on the North Island on the weekend.

One of the shocks to hit Canterbury on Sunday measured 4.0 on the Richter scale.

The day before, a 5.5 earthquake was felt northwest of Roturua.

While there were numerous reports of structural damage, no-one was seriously injured.

Tuesday will mark the two year anniversary of the 7.1 quake which hit Christchurch in the early hours of the morning on September 4, 2010.
