HERVEY Bay whale watchers could be in for a treat this season with the white humpback whale Migaloo sighted just after noon yesterday off Evans Head.

The glowing Migaloo was reportedly travelling slowly north off the New South Wales coast and was alone.

Jill Perry from Hervey Bay Whale Watch said tourism operators and visitors to the Fraser Coast would undoubtedly be excited if Migaloo came into the Bay.

After a 10-year break from the Bay the mammal just might decide this year it was time for a stop.

Migaloo has not played in the Bay since 1999 after three years in a row of doing so.

“It's bloody good news he's been sighted,” Ms Perry said.

Tour boats are not allowed to travel within 500 metres of Migaloo.
