Fraser Coast Mountain Bike Club on trail to success
FRASER Coast Mountain Bike Club has received glowing reviews after it hosted the second stage of the Wide Bay Series on Sunday.
More than 80 competitors flocked to the Toogoom trails, and this is the first time Fraser Coast MTB Club has hosted the event.
Mountain Biking Bundy sent 14 riders to Toogoom, and president Amanda Williams described the course as a great challenge.
"The terrain was different. We don't have that many hills, but we have a bit more climbing at our track.
"Here it was a bit more sandy. We had a bit of rain, which helped the track and they've got a few bridges and stuff like that."
This year's event is the inaugural Wide Bay Series.
The idea was floated at the end of last year after organisers noticed many riders travelled from Fraser Coast and Gympie for Bundaberg races, and vice-versa.
"We'll see how it goes this year, but it's been good so far," Williams said.
Riders will prepare for the series-ending stage at Gympie on August 26.
Series victors will be determined by a cumulative points tally from all three stages, but Williams encouraged newcomers to have a go.
"The best part of this sport is there's a real family aspect," Williams said.
"There's a category for everybody of all ages."
