'Our best is better than theirs' says Giants forward

AFL: Giants small forward Devon Smith has fired the first shot at cross-town rivals the Swans ahead of their watershed qualifying final in Sydney next week.

The plucky opportunist acknowledged the ability of the seasoned minor premiers, but said he was confident his side could again beat them as they did in round 12.

"The Swans are a great side, probably the best contested team. They play finals footy every week so we've got our work cut out,” Smith told Fox Sports.

"But if we get going, our best is better than theirs, so bring it on.”

The Giants are primed for their first ever final, to be played at ANZ Stadium, with power forward Jon Patton hitting career-best form, with bags of six and five goals in consecutive weeks.

THE FINALS: Thursday, September 8: Second elimination final, West Coast v Bulldogs at Domain Stadium, 8.10pm (AEST); Friday, September 9: Second qualifying final, Geelong v Hawthorn at the MCG, 7.50pm; Saturday, September 10: First qualifying final, Sydney v GWS at ANZ Stadium, 3.20pm; First elimination final, Adelaide v North Melbourne at Adelaide Oval, 7.40pm (AEST).
