Plan's just the medicine for CBD

PHARMACIST Ranald Luxton threw his support behind the push to revitalise Maryborough's CBD yesterday.

First to receive the letter members of the Maryborough CBD Renewal Group hand-delivered to all businesses in the area circled by Sussex, Lennox, Alice and Richmond streets yesterday, Mr Luxton was keen to know how plans were progressing.

As well as organising a Spring Clean Maryborough CBD Day on Sunday, November 14, the group is working with individual business owners, the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce and Fraser Coast Regional Council on various issues.

Among them is a combined marketing plan and the creation of a more pedestrian-friendly CBD with improved linkages between the main streets and car parking.

Also being considered are incentive programs that encourage the updating and repair of facades and awnings.

Renewal group chair Daniel Sanderson said the aim of distributing the letters yesterday was to make sure all retailers and their staff were informed on the group's progress and had the opportunity to be involved in the decision-making process.

“The group's plan will be approached in priority order so we will see successful change step-by-step, ensuring we create a positive environment for the growth of investment and commerce leading to the revitalisation of Maryborough's CBD.

“Progress is being made and will continue to be made.”

Mr Sanderson said all business owners and residents were welcome to contribute their ideas on how the CBD could be improved. Letters can be emailed to lisa.desmond@frasercoast.qld.gov.au
