FRASER Coast golf clubs' Holden Scramble teams came within inches of qualification to the national final.

Fraser Lakes (52) finished just 1.5 points behind winners Wolston Park (50.5), with Hervey Bay's team (52.4) a further 0.4 points back in fourth.

Maryborough Golf Club's team, which included regular columnist Kevin Law, finished 11th on 54.9.

Maryborough's second team finished 27th on 63.5.

The Holden Scramble is a national competition that pits four amateur golfers with a pro.

A team from each club is selected from a local event, who then progress to the regional finals.

Wolston Park will be among 30 teams who will compete in the national final, which will be played at Twin Waters Golf Club on November 28-30.
