Outriggers enjoy great start

THE MEMBERS of the Fraser Coast Outrigger Canoe Club enjoyed a promising start to the season when they competed at Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast.

The first sprint regatta of the season was held on the Sunshine Coast last week and the Fraser Coast club was able to register a record-breaking 26 teams for the races and all 26 went through to the finals of their respective events.

Strong performances were also achieved in the finals, with teams finishing anywhere from first to fourth in the races.

The club was thrilled with their results, putting it down to the club’s focus on having fun and working together as a team.

The club enjoyed near-perfect weather conditions on the Sunshine Coast as they competed for the first time this year.

The regatta started at 6.30am and went through to 4pm.

The first few races were held over 250m, followed up by some exciting 750m races.

With flat water, little wind and a fantastic course to race on, food, music and coffee were in abundance, making the regatta enjoyable for those who competed.

The Fraser Coast outriggers will be holding their own regatta in Hervey Bay next month.

To get involved with outrigging, go along to the come-and-try sessions on Sundays at 7.45am.
