GREY skies couldn't keep keen punters away from the Torbanlea Picnic Races.

An estimated 2000 people dressed to the nines and headed out to the Torbanlea race track on Saturday with their fingers crossed to win big - either on the track or in other events held throughout the day.

Event organiser Natasha Shepherd said she believed numbers were up from last year, and the weather was perfect for a spring race day.

"It was overcast and warm but it hardly rained at all," Natasha said.

"There was a five minute shower during the tug-o-war so some people got a bit of wet clothing but that was it."

The four stylish winners of this year's fashions on the field took home $200 gift cards each from the Accents of Elegance boutique in Hervey Bay.

Next year's Torbanlea Picnic Races will be held on October 22.
