Oztag donates $1164 to Mayor's Community Benefit Fund

HERVEY Bay businesses showing off their sporting prowess have raised $1164 for the Mayor's Community Benefit Fund.

Hervey Bay Oztag Sports Association treasurer Kelly Hanson presented the funds to Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell.

The money was raised from entry fees and donations on the day at the Oztag Corporate Challenge on July 21.

Ms Hanson said there were 13 teams in the competition.

Cr O'Connell said it was fantastic that so many clubs and groups were donating money to the fund to help out Fraser Coast residents in their hour of need.

Recently two donations were made from the fund: one for $1000 to help a Maryborough family whose house was gutted by fire and to the Arndt family to bring their son Liam home for burial.

Liam, 18, was killed in a car crash at Grong Grong in New South Wales in July.

Liam's stepbrother, Dakota Wilson, 17, set up an appeal and has so far raised $4500 towards the estimated $7000 needed to bring Liam home and a funeral.
