Sickening stabbing caught on camera

AN Israeli security guard has been stabbed in the chest in a sickening attack that was captured by security cameras.

The alleged attacker, a 24-year-old Palestinian man, had been quietly handing his belongings to the guard as he prepared to board a bus at Jerusalem's main bus station.

As shown in the footage, the man took off his jacket - and in an instant produced a knife and plunged into the guard's upper chest, reported the Jerusalem Post.

He then ran away quickly and was pursued by a member of the public and a police officer, who tackled him to the ground and arrested him.

The incident is being treated as a terrorist attack.

The 35-year-old victim was fighting for life in hospital. Doctors warned his condition would likely remain life-threatening for some time.

"The knife, unfortunately, hit his heart. His condition has stabilised, but I cannot say that there's no threat to his life because, like I said, he's in serious condition," Dr Ofer Merrin told The Times Of Israel.

Some witnesses were treated for shock, while others were enraged by the violence and chanted "death penalty for terrorists".

The attack follows a series of protests around the Middle East in the wake of President Trump's controversial decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.

The decision is a departure from a decades-old position by most countries that Jerusalem's fate would be decided in negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians as part of a peace agreement.

Arab foreign ministers who met in Cairo, Egypt, at the weekend warned Trump's move would trigger violence.
