Pathology lab petition presented to Maryborough MP

A WEALTH of community support was thrown behind Maryborough's Pathology Lab yesterday, with community members handing local MP Anne Maddern a petition demanding the services remain in the Heritage City.

The petition comes ahead of the pathology labs expected closure in December as a result of funding cuts by the State Government.

Petition organiser Suellen Sellwood said more than 1300 people had signed the petition in person and online since it began on September 12.

"We need the services to remain here in Maryborough," she said.

"A lot of the people who have signed the petition have expressed their concerned about the closure and the effects it will bring."

Mrs Maddern said she had agreed to present the non-conforming petition to the parliament clerk to see if it could be presented formally.

"Because it is a non-conforming petition it needs to be approved by the clerk first," she said.

"They will decide if it gets tabled or not."

Mrs Maddern said she would also be penning a letter to Minister Lawrence Springborg to help highlight the communities' response to the closure.
