Patients to enjoy healing powers of new hospital garden

PATIENTS recovering in Maryborough Hospital's rehabilitation unit will soon have their own sanctuary to relax and recuperate in.

Work on a healing garden has begun and Stephen Bell, acting chief operating officer for Fraser Coast hospitals, said the project would complement the newly refitted, purpose-built 22-bed rehabilitation unit.

He said the hospital received donations to fully fund the garden, thanks to $50,000 from individuals and community groups and a further $90,000 from the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.

The healing gardens will include mock bridges and a sample kerb and gutter to help people learn how to walk again.
