PCYC get fire safety approvals

HERVEY Bay PCYC manager Sergeant Patrick Fleming is over the moon at the progress being made to get his closed building its certification and final fire safety tick.

“Wormalds is closing in on all the work they're doing in here to get the smoke alarms and other detectors in place,” Sergeant Fleming said yesterday.

“I'd say that in two weeks we'll be ready to ask the council and Fire & Rescue for our final clearances to open up to the public again.”

Meanwhile the Netball Association is allowing the PCYC to use its courts, the university has loaned their outdoor weight training area for the PCYC's schools' sport and exercise program and Dan's Boxing Club has said yes to PCYC members training there.

Pat Fleming also says the publicity over the non-certified PCYC building has helped the club “enormously”.

“People out there now know that we're not government-funded and that we do all the things we do in the community.”

Tomorrow the club will hold its annual general meeting to vote in its management committee for the year.
