Mackay region's riders are pedalling to the Olympics

BMX: Mackay's riders have the Olympic Games in their sights as 2016 approaches.

Melinda McLeod, Corey Frieswyk and Tristyn Kronk will compete at the Australian National Series this weekend.

This is another step forward for these three talented riders as they are moving towards their Olympic dreams.

Frieswyk will be looking to have another strong performance at the national series whilst competing in the men's elite division.

"I am hoping to showcase the improvements I have made and just aiming to get the result," Frieswyk said.

Frieswyk is one of the most talented riders to ever come from our region and is well on his way to competing at the Rio Olympics.

The eight-time state champion and a two-time national champion has also competed as part of the national and world teams.

The now Gold Coast-based rider has been training hard and is adamant he will realise his dream of making the Olympic Games.

He attributes everything he has achieved to his parents who are his biggest supporters.

"I love that BMX is an individual sport. Even though there are seven other guys out on the track it comes down to you and if it doesn't work out you only have yourself to blame," Frieswyk said.

Away from the track Frieswyk likes to take any experience good or bad and just look at the positive side and just better himself.

"The Olympics and worlds are what get me up in the morning, things are getting more real now I'm on track to secure a spot," he said.

"It's not a dream anymore; I just have to push forward and improve."
