Pensioner blows six times the legal limit

A 50-YEAR-old man kicked out of a bar because he was allegedly "too drunk" has been caught driving at more than six times the legal alcohol limit in Maroochydore.

Staff from the Maroochydore Hotel on Main Rd reported the man to police after he allegedly drove to the venue before midday yesterday.

Staff refused to sell the man alcohol before police arrived and he was taken to the station for a breath test.

The pensioner allegedly recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.370 % - six times the legal limit.

A Maroochydore police spokesman said the reading could be the highest on the Sunshine Coast in three years.

The spokesman said seven drivers had recorded bloodalcohol levels of more than 0.3% at Maroochydore station since July, 2010.

The highest reading in Queensland, since the police service updated its breathtesting devices, was 0.390%.

The man was charged and issued with a notice to appear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court later this month.
