People irate over Facebook page attacking Anzacs and flag

A FACEBOOK page that attacks ANZACs, the Australian flag and patriotism has outraged users.

Cliff Moore alerted The Bulletin to the Facebook page titled "ANZACs are baby killers", saying he had reported the page but Facebook responded it didn't breach its guidelines.

The Bulletin put this to readers to ask if they thought Facebook should take down pages that attack soldiers. Many readers say yes.

Within an hour of this post going up on The Bulletin's page, the ANZAC page was taken down.

Initially it was thought the number of people reporting the page had lead to Facebook taking it down.

However, The Bulletin found another Facebook page To Get The Page ANZACs Are Baby Killers Removed and a post there suggest otherwise.

A Facebook user had posted "Hey guys. Last night i reported pretty much every post and photo of that degenerate group. Got a notification this morning that the group had shut itself down. No doubt the flog will appear on facebook again in the future."

The page has sparked that much anger that users are reporting radio stations around Australia jumping on the bandwagon to get this page removed permanently.

What people have said about the page:

Cliff Moore - This still does not excuse Facebook for refusing to remove this page in the first place. I think that if it had attacked the U.S.Marines instead of the ANZACs that it would have been removed immediately. This freedom of speech and society's unwillingness to upset minorities is getting out of control. There are many pages on Facebook promoting hate towards Non-Muslims but any page that insults Muslims is removed. The same is true of many minorities and the rights afforded to them by our governments and our society in general.

John Fitzgerald - YES Take it down! I shared this around and the posts have now been taken off Facebook yet this page still exists.

Kimmi Maree Jarvis- It is defaming our diggers. It should be removed.

Kate Stephenson - Any pages like that should be pulled down. There's a difference between free speech and unintelligent, uninformed disrespect.

Katie Wills - Facebook is taking down help aussie farmer pages because of animal rights and this is worse. Seems a little all over the shop. But people forget facebook is a private company and can support their own causes and beliefs. They aren't Australian.
