Talk of moving Federal agencies away from Canberra welcomed
A PROPOSAL to move some federal government agencies away from Canberra and into regional areas has been welcomed by LNP candidate for Hinkler Keith Pitt.
Mr Pitt said the Federal Coalition recognised that where possible, government agencies should be as close as possible to the people they serve.
"This is a great idea we need to develop - more government jobs placed in regional areas like Hinkler to service the broader Australian community," he said .
"We should see regional headquarters, call centres, IT hubs and defence establishments in centres outside major cities.
"Unfortunately, Labor is all about more public service jobs and less in regional Australia.
Mr Pitt said regional areas like Hinkler would be a good place for government agencies with lower administration costs and staff turnover than the city and it would help address unemployment and boost local communities.
"The key to strong local economies is having jobs - and I don't believe that government jobs should only be located in Canberra."
