The Fraser Coast Mariners will play Wests Barbarians tonight in Bundaberg.

Plan in place for Barbarians

THE GAME plan they used to defeat Wests Barbarians two weeks ago is still fresh in their minds – and the Fraser Coast Mariners will be rearing to go after earning a week off in the first week of the finals in the Bundaberg spring rugby union competition.

If the team wins tonight they will go through to the grand final where they will meet either the East Coast Buccaneers or the Alloway Falcons.

The undefeated side will travel to Bundaberg early on Friday night so they can watch the first match.

Mariners player Stephen Shine said the team was keen to find out who they would be playing so they could start preparing for next week’s grand final clash.

The Mariners kept the Barbarians try-less last time they met and they will be keen to do that again.

The Barbarians lost to the East Coast Buccaneers last Friday while the Alloway Falcons beat the Isis Crushers to book their place in the other semi final.

The team trained on Wednesday night and spoke about sticking to their games plan against a side that has a strong and determined forward pack.

While defence will be the key for the Mariners they will also be keen to show what they can do in attack.

“We’re excited,” Shine said.
