Avoid Urraween Rd now that $10 million roadworks have begun
MOTORISTS using Urraween Rd are experiencing their first traffic headaches while the busy Urraween Rd-Nissen St-Madsen Rd intersection is being rebuilt.
Fraser Coast infrastructure and planning portfolio councillor Trevor McDonald said the heavily used route was closed to vehicles between 10am and 2pm so services could be installed.
He said it would remain closed or reduced to one lane east-bound until more work was done.
"Once there is adequate queuing distance (from the Hervey Bay-Maryborough Rd) then traffic lights will be installed to control the flow in both directions," Cr McDonald said.
Traffic is currently being detoured along Boat Harbour Dr and Main St.
Cr McDonald said contractors would try to keep one lane open where possible.
He urged motorists to avoid Urraween Rd now that work had begun on the $10 million project near the Hervey Bay Hospital.
The project was expected to be completed by April 2014, Cr McDonald said.
