UPDATE: 2.43pm: 

ABOUT 10 police officers have swarmed the backyard of a Kawana home. 

Police arrested a man in the backyard after an hour-long chase through the suburb's streets.

Chaos erupted on Kawana streets when the man, who was wanted on an arrest warrant, fled on foot down Stenlake St and onto Richardson Rd.  

Police spent more than an hour jumping fences in the hunt for the man, working their way back through the backyards of homes on the block between Duffy St and Mercer St.

The man was nabbed in the backyard of 285 Richardson St.

Police called for backups, with as many as 10 police cars at checkpoint in surrounding streets.

Police also swept businesses in the search for the man. 

UPDATE: 2.03pm: 

POLICE have pulled over a taxi in the hunt for a man on the run, but had no luck finding him.

Officers are also sweeping homes and businesses in the Richardson Rd area in the search for the man, who is wanted on a warrant.

Earlier, police chased the man on foot down Stenlake Avenue and onto Richardson Rd before calling for extra crews to assist.

It is understood police have refrained from calling in the dog squad because there is too much foot traffic.

BREAKING 1.20PM: POLICE crews in Kawana have called for backup to assist in the chase of a suspect.

It is understood police are preparing to set up a cordon at the intersection of Richardson Rd and Mercer St to try and contain a man wanted on a warrant.

Police chased the man on foot down Stenlake Avenue and onto Richardson Rd before calling for extra crews to assist.

It is understood police are preparing to do a 'sweep' of businesses and properties in the Richardson Rd area to try and locate the wanted man.

It is understood police have chosen not to call in the dog squad because there is too much foot traffic. 

He was last seen by a member of the public on Richardson Rd.

The man is described as aboriginal, 175cm tall, slim build with brown shorts, brown shirt and no shoes.

Avoid the area and always give way to emergency services vehicles.
