Police dog and handler recovering after alleged attack

A POLICE dog and his handler are recovering after being allegedly attacked on Saturday night.

Police dog Arkie and his handler were tracking an alleged offender from Cypress St, Urangan and had reached the Esplanade just before 8.30pm.

The man assaulted the policeman before Arkie stepped in protect his handler and bit the alleged offender.

The man is being treated in Hervey Bay Hospital for bite injuries.

The police dog was left with leg and eye injuries.

The matter will be mentioned in court on Monday, in the man's absence, while he continues treatment for his injuries.
