Police dog tracks backpacker thieves

TWO teenagers who allegedly broke into a Urangan backpacker hostel were arrested after being tracked down by the police dog squad.

The teenagers, a male and female both aged 16, were described to police by the victim, who said he awoke to find the pair inside his room at the Colonial Village YHA between 1.45am-2am on Saturday.

The dog squad tracked the offenders from Boat Harbour Drive to an address at Miller St, where they were arrested.

The stolen property, an iPad, a wallet and two packets of cigarettes, has been recovered.
