Dad caught doing burnout near primary school at pick-up time

A HERVEY Bay father was caught doing a burnout by police at 2.50pm on July 25 - right near a primary school at pick-up time, police say.

The 25 year old was caught by traffic police who saw him performing a burnout when pulling out on to Oleander Ave.

Police said the driver was found to be a learner driver, who was driving unaccompanied, not displaying his L plates and he also failed to produce his learner drivers licence.

The man's vehicle was impounded for 48 hours and he will face charges.

"This highlights what type of charges and penalties apply should you choose this type of driver behaviour," Maryborough police Senior Constable Melanie Ryan said.

"The apprehension of this driver was a great result for police and the safety of our community."

Senior Constable Ryan reminded drivers to be mindful of the fatal five.

"Please don't drive tired, don't speed, don't drink and drive, always wear a seatbelt and don't drive distracted."
