Police officer allegedly assaulted child while on duty

A POLICE officer in north Queensland allegedly unlawfully assaulted a child while he was on duty.

The 40-year-old Constable is also accused of turning off his body camera while using offensive and threatening language against the child.

Queensland Police said the officer had been suspended from QPS and was now the subject of an investigation.

"This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated," QPS said in a statement.

QPS did not say how old the child was. 

About 2700 body cameras are in use across QPS after first being introduced in early 2015 and are used more than 30 stations.

In the Northern Region, where this officer was based, they are used at Townsville Station, Townsville Tactical Crime Squad and Townsville RAP.
