Police officer Brett Forte: Hero who served Toowoomba

FOR more than 15 years, Brett Forte served the Queensland community.

As a sworn officer in the Queensland Police Service, he walked the blue line, instilling law and order in each community where he lived.

He rose to the rank of Senior Constable and joined the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad, a core unit based in Toowoomba with the ability to devote more time to protracted investigations.

In Toowoomba, it is a highly successful unit which in the past 18 months has zeroed in on drug, property and firearm crime across the Toowoomba and wider policing region.

Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright last night spoke briefly of Snr Const Forte's tenure in the police service in which he served about 15 and a half years.

"He was a member of the Tactical Crime Squad and they were undertaking routine inquiries here today," Assistant Commissioner Wright told media last night.

"Brett has been in Toowoomba for a long period of time."

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said he served with Snr Const Forte when he first joined the police service.

"We are all mourning the loss of Brett - a fine young man in the prime of his career," he said.

"I worked with Brett when he first joined the police service and he's a fine young person and well respected by all his staff."

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said Snr Cost Forte's death was felt across every police jurisdiction in Australia.

"This is a very large family and we've lost a fine son," he said.
