Police charge man with hit and run incident outside hotel
UPDATE 9PM: The man alleged to be the driver in a hit-and-run incident which left a victim with serious head injuries has been charged by police.
A 26-year-old man handed himself into Ipswich police as officers narrowed their searched for a suspect after the incident on Friday night.
He was charged with one count each of intent to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous operation of a vehicle on Monday.
It is believed the man was involved in an altercation and evicted by security staff at Redbank's Commercial Hotel.
The QT understands the 54-year-old victim intervened, coming to the aid of patrons during the altercation.
The victim left the pub a short time later and was run down as he was about to get into his car, parked on Brisbane Rd, just after 8pm.
Ipswich District Inspector Keith McDonald said considering the initial injuries the victim suffered he was "extremely lucky".
The man has been discharged from the PA Hospital.
"The head injuries he initially received were extremely serious but after getting treated he has improved to the point that he's been released," he said. "Due to the severity of the charges he is extremely lucky that he received minimal injuries from the crash."
The 26-year-old is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrate Court on October 25.
UPDATE, MONDAY 8AM: A man has been charged following investigations into a hit and run in Redbank on Friday.
Police will allege a 54-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a vehicle after leaving a licensed premises on Brisbane Road at around 8.15pm.
The 54-year-old was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious head injuries.
A 26-year-old Redbank Plains man is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 25 charged with one count each of intent to cause grevious bodily harm and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
SUNDAY: A 54-YEAR-old pedestrian is in hospital with serious head injuries after a suspected hit-and-run outside the Commercial Hotel at Redbank.
Witnesses said the vehicle - a maroon four-wheel drive - hit the 54-year-old man as he left the Brisbane Rd venue about 8.15pm on Friday.
The man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating the incident and wants to speak with the man pictured as he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
Police are also appealing for witnesses, or people with information, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
