Poll reveals 54% have made the switch to solar power

LEAH and Ian Fraser are not alone in their love for solar power - a poll has found 54% of respondents have made the switch and love the money they're saving.

There have been a reported 8177 photovoltaic systems installed in total across Hervey Bay.

Our online reader poll revealed 54% of respondents have already made the switch to power from the sun and are loving the money they're saving.

Responding to the Fraser families switch to solar power, Gordon Lyford said a battery storage system was the only way it's viable now.

"Otherwise any excess generation gets a pittance and you have to buy it back at the retail rate outside of sunlight hours and you still have to pay the so called service fee," he said.

"Might as well go off grid entirely."

Grant Silcock expressed his concerns about the cost. 

"Meanwhile those of us unable to afford solar, or live in rentals without, continue to subsidise those who can, as ERGON charges US for the profits they are losing to solar systems," he said.
