Cemetery issue to go to council

A PETITION calling on the Fraser Coast Regional Council to review the maintenance policy at Hervey Bay's Polson Cemetery is expected to be tabled this morning.

Various petitions have been handed out to businesses around the region and the joint document, which is set to be brought before councillors in today's ordinary meeting, is believed to carry more than 100 signatures.

The petition was started by Hervey Bay resident Jeff Curran whose nephew Anthony is buried at the cemetery.

Mr Curran is one of many grieving residents who approached the Chronicle in the past month to express their outrage at the treatment of headstones and grave sites and removal of flowers and keepsakes at the cemetery.

Last Wednesday Fraser Coast mayor Mick Kruger asked staff to prepare a report on the maintenance policy to be brought to today's meeting.
