Poona fishing comp is back, market day on Saturday

AFTER a one year hiatus, Poona Family Fishing Competition is back, this year shifting its focus towards family-orientated fun.

The competition, which is run by the Poona Community Progress Association, will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

President Peter Heit said the event aimed at attracting more than 150 competitors.

"We are hoping for lots of families to enter the competition and I expect everyone will have a great time especially as it looks like the weather is going to be good," he said.

"Each night after the weigh-in there will be live entertainment at the Progress Association hall."

Mr Heit said there would be a market day for adults from 7am to noon on Saturday and an Easter egg hunt and face painting for the kids on Sunday

"There is also a mullet throwing competition where contestants pay $1 per throw."

Sign-on will be at the Poona boat ramp on Friday between 4pm and 5pm, and also on Saturday between 6.30am and 7.30am at the Poona, Maaroom and Tuan boat ramps.
