Popular manager to next challenge

POPULAR Fraser Coast Chronicle General Manager Russell Broughton has been called back to New Zealand by the APN group.

APN NZ yesterday announced his appointment as the new general manager of its Hastings-based daily newspaper, Hawke’s Bay Today.

Russell came from NZ in 2008 to take up the role as general manager of the Chronicle and its sister papers the Hervey Bay Observer and Maryborough Herald.

All three papers have grown under his leadership, benefiting from his attitude to “make things happen”.

During his time in the district he has become a champion of the community and his support for many district organisations has won him great respect.

Announcing the appointment, APN Regionals Chief Operating Officer Rick Neville said Russell had a track record of success in different markets on both sides of the Tasman.

Russell said that while he and his wife, Robyn, had fallen in love with the Fraser Coast the chance to go home to a challenging role and to be reunited with family was just too great to turn down.

“I will miss my many new friends and the beautiful weather of the Fraser Coast,” he said.

He will take up his role in NZ in May.
