Posting a letter now more expensive
THE cost to send a small letter increased by about 30c yesterday thanks to a price rise in stamps.
Basic Postage Rate stamps are now $1, following a decision made by Australia Post to increase the former 70c price tag.
In a statement released by Australia Post, it was stated that the change would allow Australia Post to "recover more of the cost of providing the letters services".
Posters will also be charged about 50c on top of the stamp price to have their letter delivered within one to four days, depending on destination.
Non-urgent letters, which fit into the Regular Service category, could take up to two extra business days to deliver.
An Australia Post spokesperson said the increase to the Basic Postage Rate was the fifth price hike in the past 23 years.
"At $1, the BPR will remain on of the lowest in the developed world."
