Power out as storm tears through

ABOUT 3400 Ergon Energy customers between Maryborough and Gympie had their power supply interrupted for an hour on Tuesday night as storms swept through the district.

Customers in the Tiaro area reported that the interruption at 6.40pm coincided with a loud clap of thunder and lightning strike.

The outage also affected Bauple, Glenwood, Gunalda, Mungar and neighbouring communities, as well as parts of Tinana.

The impact of the storm caused the protection system to operate to cut supply on the feeder, although it did not cause any damage requiring repair.

The restoration was delayed because crews had to wait for the storm to pass before they could investigate whether a grass fire on the roundabout in Alice Street at Maryborough West was a danger to the overhead high-voltage powerlines.

Power was restored at 7.40pm.
