Power's perfect start on track after win at Waves

YOU can talk to Michael Gay about anything but just don't ask the Bay Power coach about his side's perfect start.

The Power's 13-point win over The Waves ensured the Hervey Bay club remained unbeaten atop the QFA Wide Bay Sunshine Coast table.

When asked if he expected such a start, Gay was quick to dive into the history book.

"We've done this before," Gay said.

When you consider Bay Power's appearance in the AFL Wide Bay finals last year was their first in a decade, you understand why he is cautious.

"I'm not sure about expecting (this start)," Gay said. "We're just going through and doing what we need to be doing."

Scores were tight all game, though the Power led at every change.

"It was a pretty scrappy game actually, we turned the ball over a bit, we dropped a few marks, most of our kicks were a bit short," he said.

"That point of it, we gave them a lot of footy. Having said that, the last quarter we knew we had to really stick it out and hold on."

The usual suspects stood up when it counted.

Defenders Glenn Krohn and Matty Saunders kept Waves at bay while Josh Wheeler was it his regular game-changing best.

Nick Bennetts shone on debut, while fellow newcomer Dan Goodwin had another cracker.

The Power have the bye this weekend before a road trip to Gympie's Six MIle Oval to face the Cats on Saturday, May 13.

The Cats will travel to Bundaberg this week to face Brothers Bulldogs.
