Southern Downs man grew pot for pain relief
A PRATTEN man has avoided jail for growing marijuana on his property.
Darren Crabtree, 50, pleaded guilty to possessing and producing 18 marijuana plants.
Defence barrister John Bailey told the Warwick District Court Crabtree grew the drugs to deal with his back pain.
"His motivation was pain relief," Mr Bailey explained, saying his client had severe back and spine issues after two separate accidents.
Judge Ian Dearden suggested Crabtree find a new way to treat the pain.
"My advice to you is to access appropriate legal medications to deal with your back problems," he said.
Crabtree was sentenced to four months' jail to be wholly suspended.
