Premier to visit Maryborough in May

QUEENSLAND Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will be visiting Maryborough next month for the inaugural Billy Demaine Memorial Dinner; hosted by the ALP Maryborough Branch.

The dinner will be held on Friday, May 6 at the Maryborough RSL from 6pm, and will celebrate the life and achievements of William "Billy" Demaine, known as one of the founders of the Australian Labor Party.

Mr Demaine formed the Eight Hour Union and the General Labourer's Union Maryborough in the 1880's.

He was also elected Mayor of Maryborough between 1933 and 1939.

On the memorial night, a dinner raffle will be held to support disadvantaged school children from Maryborough State High School compete in the 2016 tech challenge.

All money raised from the raffle will be donated to the school to build a 'human powered vehicle' to be called the Billy Demaine Red Flyer.
