PRISON BRAWL: M'boro inmates rushed to hospital

A BRAWL that broke out at the Maryborough Correctional Centre forced two inmates to be rushed to hospital.

Nine prisoners were believed to have been part of the violent incident on Thursday.

Amongst the two prisoners taken to hospital was a 32-year-old suffered facial injuries.

A 21-year-old male was also transported to hospital for an assessment.

Both have now been returned back to the correctional centre.

Several of the other prisoners involved had health checks at the prison.

Custodial officers detected a disturbance in a secure unit at the centre at about midday.

The brawl comes after the prison has been well over-capacity for years, and is now fluctuating with some of its highest ever inmate numbers.

The incident has been referred to the Queensland Police Service and the Corrective Services Investigation Unit
