'Psychotic' prisoner's bomb hoax

A PRISONER at Maryborough Correctional Centre who allegedly made a bomb hoax at the jail has appeared in the city’s Magistrates Court.

Wayne Lee Walker was alleged to have made the threat to a police officer on January 16.

Walker was represented in court by solicitor Jim Fairlie, who said his client was on medication after being diagnosed as psychotic.

“When he hears voices he goes and does certain things like this,” Mr Fairlie said.

Walker was keen to plead guilty to the charge and have his matter dealt with in the Magistrates Court, Mr Fairlie said, however the nature of the charge meant it would have to be committed to the District Court.

Magistrate John Smith adjourned the case for committal mention on April 28 and Walker was remanded in custody.
