Hotel on track to open super-sized bottleshop in November

THE Torquay Hotel is on track to open its new super-sized bottleshop in November, before work moves on to the hotel revamp in 2014.

Hotel general manager Darren Carter said the $6 million project would be carried out in two stages, with the first being the bottle shop due to begin trading before Christmas.

"We're one of 18 Celebrations superstores being opened across Queensland," Mr Carter said.

"That will be to take on your bigger ones, those that stock the large selections of wines, spirits and beers."

Mr Carter said the second stage would change the hotel's appearance.

He said the pub would grow to two levels - the upper being dedicated mostly to functions, while on the lower floor dining inside and out would be expanded.

"We'll still have the traditional Torquay Hotel beer garden too. But it will have a couple of raised decks on the ends," he said.

Work on stage two is expected to be finished in 2014.
