Superheroes set to be this year's PubFest theme
WITH a splash of yellow and a dash of superheroes, this year's PubFest is sure to be one to remember.
Maryborough's annual costumed pub crawl, to be held on June 7, will be better than ever this year, with organisers already gearing up for the big event.
The theme of PubFest will be superheroes and this year's colour will be yellow.
The search is also on for a Fraser Coast charity to benefit from the World's Greatest PubFest.
A major charity is chosen every year with last year's major charity, Alzheimer's Australia, presented with $8000 after the event.
This year the major charity will be Give Me Five for Kids, but the organising committee, made up of Fraser Coast publicans, are hoping to give a local charity the chance to benefit from the event as well.
PubFest organising committee chairman Gary Gilbert said this was a new concept for the event, which had raised vital funds for the community since it began in 2005.
To qualify for a donation of about $2000, charities are being asked to provide 20 members to work as bus conductors, ticket sellers and volunteers on the day.
"This extra donation will be provided to the selected local charity as thanks for providing volunteers to help the committee run some of the elements of this popular celebration," Mr Gilbert said.
"Obviously the more who attend and the more passports that are sold then the more money that can be channelled back into the community," he said.
Mr Gilbert said staff members at the hotel he managed, the Carriers Arms in Alice St, were already getting excited ahead of the pub crawl.
