VIDEO: Puppy basher fined $2000 for cruelty

A WOMAN who battered a puppy and screamed she was going to "punch it to death" has been fined $2000 and ordered to pay court costs.

Krystal Taege pleaded guilty to one count of being cruel to an animal.

Jack, an eight-month-old Jack Russell, was rescued from the home Taege shared with her partner earlier this year.

Two independent witnesses raised the alarm after seeing Taege slap and punch the dog in the face.

The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard Jack had exhibited "considerable emotional trauma", rare for a dog so young and "consistent with abuse and being tormented".

Taege's lawyer John Milburn told the court his client had, at the time, been under "extraordinary stress" and was dealing with being evicted from her home and the incarceration of her partner, who is currently serving time at Maryborough jail.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell ordered for Taege not to be in the care of an animal for at least two years.

Jack has since been rehomed with a family in Brisbane.
