Raids prove public input is imperative in combating crime

A RUGER semi-automatic pistol and silencer, handcuffs and a large quantity of marijuana were among items seized by police during a series of raids this week.

Detectives from the Maryborough District CIB carried out search warrants at properties in Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Toogoom and charged 11 people with 18 offences.

The offences included drug trafficking, supply and possession, as well as possession of weapons, restricted articles and drug utensils.

Hervey Bay man Daryl David Hall, 25, faced court on Tuesday charged with trafficking dangerous drugs.

He was arrested when detectives searched an address at Torquay earlier that day.

Hall was remanded in custody until his next appearance in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on February 14, 2013.

Detective Sergeant Dave Guild said the raids were carried out between December 3 and 11.

"Police were targeting known offenders and were assisted by information provided by members of the public," he said.

"Police continue to appeal for assistance concerning drug offences in the area."
