Raptors clawed way to extra-time grand final victory
FIRST TITLE: The first premiership trophy was won by KSS Jets Raptors when they overcame minor premiers Bayside Strikers in the Fraser Coast League Division 2 grand final.
The Jets prevailed 2-1 courtesy of a 94th minute goal from Jack Grainger, and held out for the remaining 25 minutes to win the Hervey Bay Sports Club contest at the start of the month.
Jets president Josh Hobbs, a member of that title-winning team, said it capped a strong season.
The Raptors had lost two and drawn two of its 18 games, winning 14 on the way to a second-placed finish just three points behind the strikers.
But the red army maintained a good record against Bayside, and finished as the only team the Strikers didn't beat.
"We won't take anything away from them, but we can say we were the only team they couldn't beat,” he said.
"We had a good group of mostly older players. Grant Barlogie (brother of Jets veteran Phil), it was his first season and he was one of our best.”
Grainger finished the year as the Raptors' top goal-scorer with 18, ahead of Scott Archbold(11), Phil Barlogie (nine) and David Tarr (eight).
