THE death of a popular community volunteer has left the Fraser Coast in mourning.

Kev Tootell, a former paramedic, dedicated more than 60 years of his life to the ambulance service, including more than 20 years post-retirement serving on the Hervey Bay Local Ambulance Committee.

The beloved Tinana man was most well-known for his enthusiastic compering of the annual Ambulance Wheel in Torquay.

His passing last week left the community remembering a great.

On Facebook the Chronicle's readers left their tributes.

Tania Bell: RIP. I have been going to the Ambulance Wheel since (sic) 4 to 5 years now and he will be missed. My heart goes to his family and friends.

Jill Loveday: Kev did so much for his community, he will be missed.

Karen Birt: Will miss you, Toot.

Kristen Holdsworth: RIP old mate, the wheel won't be the same.
