All hands on deck: Coast bars get ready for a big night

IT'S ALL hands on deck for bars and hotels across the Fraser Coast as they gear up for their biggest night of the year - New Year's Eve.

General Manager of the Beach House Hotel Paul Robins said he was frantically filling fridges with alcohol, which he had no doubt would be emptied by 2 o'clock tomorrow morning.

"It'll be a huge night," Paul said.

"Probably the biggest night for us, we usually get close to a thousand people through so it would be nice to beat this year."

The Beach House Hotel will have a live band downstairs, a DJ and night club upstairs, and has organised fireworks at midnight on the Scarness Pier.

Down the esplanade in Torquay, Hoolihans Irish pub is also preparing for one of the biggest night of the year.

"We're all decked out, we've got the Hooligans playing, we're fully stocked, the kitchen's ready and I reckon it's going to be great," Duty manager Kimberly said.

"Everyone who works here will help prepare; whether they do the day shift, a split shift or a night shift - we're ready to go."

She said New Year's was on a par in popularity with St Patrick's Day for Hoolihans, and she was expecting hundreds of people to party on in the pub.

"We'll do a dinner which will bring in a couple of hundred and hopefully they'll carry through to midnight."
