Ready to race into triathlon
TRIATHLON: The first triathlon of the year will be held at Seafront Oval tomorrow and organiser Ron Morgan reckons competitors can’t wait to get back on their bikes.
The club held an aquathon in January and a cycling leg was not included in the event.
Morgan says the inclusion of the cycling leg will produce a few different results, bringing the older competitors into contention.
Morgan said Jimmy Trevorrow and Chris Barnes would be two to look out for in the mens event.
In the womens event Cassie Percival is the likely favourite but if she doesn’t take part its anyone’s race, Morgan said.
The competitors will do half the Olympic distance during the race tomorrow, including a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.
That will especially help competitors keen to take part in the Mooloolaba triathlon at the end of March.
Morgan is expecting up to 130 competitors tomorrow – as many as took part in last month’s aquathon, which set a new attendance record for the Hervey Bay Triathlon Club.
The starting time for junior competitors will be 7.50am and for seniors the starting time will be 8.45am.
