A perfect barrier draw has given Kiwi stayer Mongolian Khan a shot at winning the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

It drew barrier nine but will move into the six gate if the emergencies are scratched -- an ideal barrier for New Zealand jockey Opie Bosson to position the Australian Derby winner into the box seat in the $3 million Group 1 2400m feature race.

Japanese star Fame Game, the ruling Melbourne Cup favourite, drew barrier one, which won't help his chance while the luckless Royal Descent to be ridden by Glenn Boss drew out in the car park in barrier 22.

Strong fancies Lucia Valentina (20) and Set Square (16) also fared poorly when the marbles came out.

Kiwi mare Rising Romance, who ran a slashing second in last year's Caulfield Cup after dashing clear and being run down by the ill-fated Admire Rakti, will get a lovely run from barrier two for Damian Lane.

English Import Snow Sky, who will be ridden by group one specialist Damien Oliver, was another who drew well in barrier three and is expected to firm a little from his $17 quote.

The four Cup emergencies, Quest For More (8) Complacent (10), Dibayani (7) and Magic Hurricane (4), all drew good barriers which means if they don't get a run, the other horses will come in three or four barriers.
